Perhaps it’s my idealist introvert view, but there are so many lifestyle beliefs out there that can cause such heartache when you try to unravel them with logic. I say let them have their “turtle world” and I’ll take my own view, thank you. Some things can stand as they are and yet appear very different based on the lens from which we observe.
So before engaging in the debate on a particular philosophy, religion or lifestyle choice, I try to ask myself, does it matter who is “right?” What is “right?” Is “right” the same for all humans? Why should a social norm matter if what’s in the heart resonates with who you are and no harm is done? Will the outcome of this debate make the world a better place or help someone? No thank you! On some topics I do not require further discussion with people that embrace a fixed mindset and refuse to see all sides.
That’s part of the wonderful bliss of being human. We can agree to disagree. We can select where we place our attention and our efforts. We can judge for ourselves based on own experience, learn from that, revise our opinions and practices accordingly. You can have your beliefs and I can have mine. We can agree to disagree on what is best for each of us and all of that is ok. Equanimity prevails and we all win.
No turtles were harmed in the making of this post.
